1. Maria La Gorda Beach, Pinar del Rio
Located at the western end of Cuba, it is the largest dive site in the country along with the Isla de la Juventud, so if you are a scuba diver, you will find here a diving area populated by beautiful and colorful reefs. It has more than 50 dive sites with abundant marine life, colorful corals, tunnels, caves and even the remains of Spanish galleons, making it one of the most exciting dive sites in the Western Hemisphere. Between June and August, there is a high probability of turtle sightings on the southern beaches, where green turtles come to nest.
PS: María la Gorda (“Fat Mary”) is named after a plump slave who was supposedly brought here by Spanish pirates in the 17th century.
2. Jibacoa Beach, Mayabeque
It is a spectacular Caribbean paradise located on the north coast of the province of Mayabeque. It has resorts and several campsites where in the months of July and August you will see many locals vacationing with their families, the rest of the year it is a refuge. In the Summer Festival in Jibacoa, important hip hop and rock bands meet, as well as well-known DJ producers who offer outdoor concerts. It offers a great landscape attraction: the green vegetation contrasts with the blue of the sea, the sky and the hills of the area. The spa is surrounded by mountains, river mouths and sea beds with caves, corals and a varied fauna of fish and mollusks. It is said to have one of the largest coral reefs in the Western Hemisphere and in the world.
3. Santa Lucia Beach, Camagüey
It is located on the north coast of Camaguey, exactly east of Cayo Sabinal and the entrance to Bahía de Nuevitas. Its waters are very calm, ideal for water sports, surface fishing, underwater photo hunting and sea bathing. The bathing areas are very calm, transparent and with sandy bottoms.
The pink of the flamingos, the varied blues of the sky and the sea, the incandescent green of the abundant surrounding vegetation will captivate you from the first minute of your arrival. It has an extensive coral reef, the second largest on the planet after Australia, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere; which turns it into a gigantic swimming pool.
4. Maguana Beach, Guantánamo
Tucked away on the eastern tip of Cuba, 45 minutes (20Km) from the picturesque town of Baracoa, Playa Maguana is a palm-fringed beach cove lapped by turquoise waters. It is considered the smallest beach in Cuba, an exotic place for relaxation and rest. The adjacent food kiosks are a great place to try some oriental specialities. Very few tourists make it here, as it is at the end of a mostly rugged road. While rustic, the charming Villa Maguana is the place to stay, with rooms that face directly onto the beach.
